[oh... he didn't want to pressure her, but if he was honest, he'd prefer home? he's got to work so much now to cover the lost hours, and hopefully his brother's stupid mistake...]
it's... a lot easier for me to meet you at my place, the college is a little out of the way from work. but i don't mind going there, if you want.
[ so. the time to meet up rolls around; ann takes the bus over to mako's place, textbooks on her lap with her backpack around her shoulders. she gets off at her designated stop, walks over to his place and knocks on the door. ]
[he opens the door soon after she knocks, and then steps back to let her in.]
Hey. Come in.
[the apartment is really simple, a little on the smaller end of things. There are dry erase markers on the fridge, where it looks like Mako writes out things he needs to grab from the grocery store, next to reminders about games (he seems to be really into soccer). On a shelf, a couple of Bolin's old wrestling trophies sit.
There's a poster hanging on his door for one of his old theater shows, actually. On the coffee table, Mako's got a few news papers. Some in English, some in Chinese. The furniture is clean, but it's definitely not even close to the latest style.
There are useful things like calendars on the wall, and a couple of photographs (team photos from HS). Finally, outside of Mako's room is a small bookshelf. It's got a few of his old books from college, if she *really* wants to investigate. And there are probably some of Bolin's as well.]
[ it's small, but it's...homey? ann never really goes over to people's houses much so it's really interesting to see the contrast between her home and his (no offense mako). it may be way smaller but it feels more...
comfortable.
she leaves her shoes at the door and looks around, not quite investigating just yet. ]
[there's the table-- two chairs, cozy-- or the couch, which can fit three people. And he'll move the stuff off the coffee table for her, if she really wants to.]
Do you want something? I just got some tea. Bo's got some sodas that I don't think he'll miss.
[... he was starting to develop a taste for it, and he wants to be a good host]
[ the table with the two chairs it is! easier to work there than the couch. she puts her bag down on her seat, taking out her algebra homework. ]
Just tea's fine.
[ what a good host, mako! ]
So...I took algebra in high school, but I wanted to take it again before going into trig since I was so bad at it. I mean, the concepts look really familiar, but I don't think I really understand all of them.
[oh... oh no. He reads down the notes, and pauses, mentally filling in the rest from his own memory. He sees what they're going for, at least. And then he points to where she trailed off]
Okay, so I remember this. Want me to walk through the steps?
[see he can easily walk her though the steps of what she's supposed to do. He even remembers some of the examples that helped him? When it's one on one, he can teach. But anymore than that and he's lost. Still, he's taking it serious. He wants her to do well.
If only his brother would ask him for help too, instead of failing everything.]
[ this is really helpful, and she's already paying more attention to mako than she is her professor. look at her, jotting down notes and trying so hard to understand! she still doesn't fully grasp it, but she has a better understanding of it than before at the very least.
she smiles, proud of herself and grateful for him--she gets out of her chair and walks over to his to bend down and give him the warmest of hugs. ]
[ she got carried away. but okay, let's do this. ann sits down, gets her pencil and tries to work on one of her homework problems. something about logs, something something calculator, and then....
[he checks it over, following her math, and then nods]
Yeah, looks like you've got it.
[NOW he'll take his congratulations. But really, he's just gonna lean over and nuzzle her for a second, before leaning back, so she can do more problems if she wants]
[ she does a little fist pump, and oh, that little nuzzle? cute... she flushes for a second before turning back to her work. ]
Alright, let's do this! I'm gonna try and finish this all in one go, okay?
[ so uh. give her some time to work through the problems...there aren't a lot? but she's trying her best. the ones towards the end are more challenging so she needs some time to work through them, but eventually....she does finish.
and then she's going to close her book with a loud 'thud' and get out of her seat to stretch. ]

Got any notes for me to look over? Just to get an idea of what you've learned so far.
[a pause]
Unless this is some sort of pre-knowledge check?
no subject
[ she passes him some notes, mostly things you'd find in an algebra 2 class. looks like ann started off taking really good notes and then it
progressively gets worse and worse. more and more vague. oops. ]

Okay, so I remember this. Want me to walk through the steps?

[ so mako's totally a teacher she can listen to and she's determined to get this down! there's a look in her eyes that'll tell him that, too. ]

Does that help...?

It's a huge help! Best boyfriend ever!

Hey-- maybe we should try some of your homework before you say I helped.
[but he's glad she seems to think he did, either way. This was nice, spending time with her, no matter what happened.]
