I...I'm not sure. I just remember cornering him; Akira and another person, Ryuji, were there too. Along with this talking cat... yeah, don't ask.
[ that's something she still doesn't get ]
Uh...
So apparently--I was some kind of...thief...before?
[ she winces. is he going to hate her for that? ]
But it seemed like we were doing good things. Stealing hearts, metaphorically, even though I don't know what that means. But we were just trying to help.
[......................... he was totally lying, and he didn't pick Ann out of a hat for that conversation. Mako frowns for a moment, distracted by that realization, before he focuses in on what she finishes with.]
You were a thief of hearts?
[he pauses, legitimately confused, and not sure what to make of it]
And... I don't know. I think Akira knows? So I'll talk to him about it. But... I just--I don't want that to change our relationship. Since you're, well, a cop.
And...also? You're so cheesy. [ but he's getting a smile and a cuddle for that! She scoots her chair closer so she can lean on him a little. Good job Mako ]
My parents are...really neglectful? My mom is a famous actress and my dad is huge in the music industry. They're always traveling and doing stuff, and it's been that way since I can remember.
So...I think it's kind of weird that suddenly they care so much about my college education when they never really cared about me before.
[oh... He frowns, and his arm tightens around her just a bit, as he listens. He knew bad parents, but... he didn't want to go into his experiences. At all. Instead, he exhales softly.]
Screw them. Do what you want. If they didn't care enough before... If they put their lives and careers ahead of you, then you should do what you want too.
I know. I'm trying, I swear. But...I'm also scared of being a disappointment, even if I shouldn't be? They don't exactly believe that I'm smart enough to go into any science, and it's true. I'm not.
Ann... Anyone can go into a science if they want to. Maybe you're not naturally good at science, or math, or whatever else you need to be a vet. But that doesn't mean you can't do it.
It's all a matter of figuring out how to study, and to make the information easy for you to grasp. That's it. You don't need to be a natural to be good.
[ well. She's never thought about it that way before until now? And what mako says holds a lot of conviction and truth. Studying...she hates it, but she's got to prove them wrong. She has to show them her worth. ]
You're right. I'm really gonna step up my game--my parents won't acknowledge me, so I'm gonna make them see me for who I really am!

You know Akira?

[ oh god does she need to fight akira ]

I'm sorry.

[he sighs. He's just going to let that one slide for the moment.]
Uh-- it's okay. The whole thief thing is weird, but not a dealbreaker, if that's what you're worried about?
You already kind of stole my heart.

[ SHE HAS A FEELING ] That was totally my fault.
And...also? You're so cheesy. [ but he's getting a smile and a cuddle for that! She scoots her chair closer so she can lean on him a little. Good job Mako ]

[well, he won't turn it down but--]
Hey, if you're done studying, we can move to the couch. It might be easier.
no subject
[ yeah ]
Oh, sure! That's fine with me.
[ moving on over to the couch now! ]
no subject
Cheesy or not... being a phantom thief in a past life isn't going to scare me away, you know.
no subject
--Not like I plan on doing anything! Just, well, you get me, right?
no subject
[he looks a little amused as he leans against her just slightly.]
And you could always find out something's changed. I've counted at least three different jobs in my memories.
no subject
Really? ...You know, you've never really told me about your memories. Are they as crazy as mine?
no subject
[he glances at her, and then puts his arm around her, that's cool, right?]
I thought maybe my life was completely different... but honestly, some things are still the same.
[that gets a bit of a frown]
no subject
Yeah? Like...what?
[ she notices that frown and looks over inquisitively. ]
no subject
[no word on foster families yet. But for now, he takes the comfort easily. It's nice having her so close?]
no subject
[ ah. she understands, now, what happened that put them in foster care--at least the gist of it. ]
I'm so sorry, Mako...
no subject
[it was so long ago-- and he's... realizing he'd never told her about his parents. So, that leaves him feeling a bit sheepish.]
Sorry, I shouldn't have dropped that on you like that.
no subject
[ she shakes her head and grabs onto his hand. ]
Really. I'm...glad you told me.
no subject
No problem. It was a long time ago, but we're on our feet now.
no subject
[ a frown and a shake of her head. ]
no subject
[well, now that she's brought it up, he wants to know.
Admittedly, they'd only barely talked about her home life. Maybe he should have asked way before this.]
no subject
[ a sigh. Here we go. Time to rank up! ]
