Something like that. I'm used to working alone, so it gets a little overwhelming to have to work with others. That's... probably something I need to get over.

[at least, that was a pretty frank assessment on his part. He'd never really admitted it that way, though.]

Actually-- one of the monsters triggered a memory for me. I recognized it, it was like someone's pet. If this is all supposed to be fake, but these memories are "real", why are the monsters something I remember?

[he sighs]

It wasn't even aggressive. And we still had to get rid of it.

You remembered a monster?

[ that's really strange. out of all the things to remember... ]

What was it? Was it one of those cows? If I remember correctly they weren't very aggressive at all.

No, it was one of the bunnies with dragonfly wings. Those were even less aggressive than the cows. The cows would steal from you, but the bunnies just wanted to nuzzle us.

I felt like a jerk attacking it.

[another frank assessment.]

Especially since they never attacked back.

Why did you guys have to attack it? I'm guessing it was part of your objective, right?

[she's sad, he's sad-- he leans back in the booth and sighs. He needed to stop thinking about the objectives. Because that just inevitably got him thinking back to his near death experience.

And he really wasn't keen to think about it.]

[ man, his group's had it really rough. but it looks like he doesn't really want to talk about it, so she'll change the subject: ]

[oh yeah-- he looks placed with that. He liked this place a lot, so it's good to have that validation, even though... well, he didn't ask for it.]

This place is pretty good, I used to come here a lot with my brother when we were both in high school.

Anyway-- once we pay up, we can hit up that dessert shop for you.

It is good! We should come here again sometime!

[ she notably perks up when he talks about dessert and gets out her wallet to pay. ]

Sounds great! We'll pay up now, okay?

[how excited are you for dessert, ann... He founders a little bit, as it's sinking in just how much more excited for dessert than dinner she is.

But he nods, and calls out to the guy (at this point it should be obvious they know each other). Who nods and brings out their checks.

That was nice of him. Mako, unlike most normal human beings, pays in cash.]

Alright. Ready?

[ very excited. but she enjoyed dinner, too! don't be so hard on yourself, mako. she just has a sweet tooth.

ann pays with card, like most human beings. ]

Yeah, ready! You must come here a lot, huh?

[the sweet tooth is forgivable. He shrugs.]

I'd come after games with my brother. Both when I was playing, and then when he was. It was kind of a tradition for us.

This is the first time I've been here without him, so don't tell him. I don't want him getting mad at me for breaking traditions.

Aw, that's cute! Sibling bonding, yeah?

[ ann could only hope for something like that, being an only child, but that's alright. she has...friends for that, now. it feels nice. ]

Uh-- probably. I don't see why not. He's not here right now, but when he's back in town, I'll introduce you.

[UNLIKE WHAT SOME PEOPLE THING-- Mako is not ashamed of his brother. He just.... wishes he would take things more seriously.]

Anyway, yeah, it was kind of a 'brothers' thing. [he puts his good hand in his pocket, and then uses his shoulder to shove the door open, holding it for her]

Nah, only me. I had a bunny when I was younger named Princess. She was like my baby sister.

[ ann walks through the door, suddenly sounding...nostalgic. a little wistful. she misses her little bun. ]

A bunny, huh? I bet she was really, really easy to get along with.

[now that they're outside, he's thinking it's kind of a nice night, all destruction aside. Maybe he will actually get some dessert, and not just tea. Who knows. It's that kind of night.]

You bet! And she was real easy to take care of, too. She's the reason why I want to go into veterinary science.

Yeah! That's why I'm ditching acting. I'm pretty passionate about animals, if I do say so myself.

[ she says it with the utmost sincerity. it's kind of nice, just chilling with a friend like this...it's been a while. last time she'd done that was when she went over to yukiko's house. ]

You seemed kind of... bothered, by the whole acting discussion we had earlier. I wasn't sure why, but if it's what's stopping you from doing what you want, it makes a lot more sense.

Oh. Yeah... I mean, it's not a big deal. It's just--my parents want me to follow in their footsteps, go into the entertainment industry. I don't really want that at all.

[ she frowns a little, not wanting to sour the mood but also wanting to be honest all the same. ]

I just...I want a normal life, y'know? And I feel like I missed out on that, growing up.

[he glances ahead when she says that, and holds in a sigh. Yeah, he could understand that. He really could understand that. But, hey, live in the moment, right?]

Yeah, that makes sense. But, that's what college's for: figuring out what you want to do when you grow up.

Yeah, exactly! So this is like...my rebellion against them, to show them that I can do what I want!

[ they don't exactly believe that she'll make a good vet because of her grades from high school, but ann's determined to prove them wrong. ]

I'm so hyped for this semester to start, I'm gonna study like crazy!

[ANN....... He's rooting for her. Even though, he knows that face, he knows that saying, just from his brother's time in college. He always says he's gonna work hard.
