[he's so glad to not be roughing it outside anymore. He likes being in the calm and quiet sometimes, but he was starkly reminded that he grew up in and had lived his whole life in the city by day three. The quiet was a little overbearing. But also, he just wanted to be romantic with his girlfriend.

Without making his best friend heartsick.

Without the comments about getting a room. And, at least for now, it seemed like they weren't going to be in any danger. So, sure, the show wasn't to his taste. But it made Ann happy, and he was more happy to have her leaning against him.

He was just going to not. say. anything. about the plot.]

[ it really is nice, being able to spend time with mako like this without worrying about being watched and being teased by other people. they finally get alone time after an entire month of fighting and scavenging, and for once, ann feels relaxed.

until she realizes that there's a breakup going on. ]

I called it! Ugh! I didn't wanna believe it, but--it's over...

[ she's so upset, oh my god. ]

Makoooo....why did they do that?!

I have no clue.

[answered sincerely, bluntly. HE DOESN'T GET THIS SHOW, ANN. But he loves her, and so he's willing to watch it with her, especially after this whole month.

He idly runs a hand through her hair.]

But it's probably not going to stick...

I hope not! Letty and Mughead are meant to be together!

[ she has so many feelings about this show. ann grabs the bag of fritos she brought over and angrily stuffs some in her mouth. ]

Ugh, I'm soooo pissed!

[he doesn't have much to add to the show, after all... it still seems a little much for him. He pauses, watching her reaction, before sighing, and then smiling a little bit.]

Guess you're glad to be back here, huh?

There... aren't that many episodes left to go, right?

Yeah. I really am!

[ because she gets to finish streamdale, yeah, but also...

ann nuzzles up to him, wrapping her arms around him. ]

I get to spend some alone time with you, and finish Streamdale? Two in one! There's only...four more episodes, I think?

... Maybe we should take a break, order something in?

[please, please give him a break?? He needs it before the next episode]

Oh, yeah! Like...pizza, maybe? I want mines with all veggies, please!

[ "healthy" eating. ]

["healthy..." But also, pizza is pretty easy to order. It's the cheapest of the order-in foods too...]

Okay.

[he pulls out his phone to start browsing, and notices the date...]

... Hey, what do you think about doing something special Friday?

You remembered!

[ and ann is overjoyed. she doesn't make a huge deal out of anniversaries, but six months is a big one, even though it's felt like it's been way longer than that. ]

Hmm... We haven't been on a really romantic date in a while, have we? I feel like that'd be really nice.

[he has an idea, at least, of what he'd like to do? He pulls her closer as he flips through the pizza options on his phone. He's gotten better with a true smartphone... But mostly, even though he's ordering a pizza for them, he's planning what he'd like to do this weekend.]

You're right, we haven't.

[he hits submit-- now for the wait. He sets his phone down]

I'll plan something out for us.

You will?

[ aw...mako. ann leans in to kiss his cheek, wrapping her arms around him and nuzzling into his shoulder. ]

You're the best. Seriously. I can't wait!

[he grins a little bit at the kiss-- and it was a good feeling to know that Souji was no longer in his head, and they could no longer get comments from the peanut gallery.]

I'm glad this came up after we got back.

[he almost wants to put an embargo on retrospec discussion after that-- but he knows he can't. Not entirely.]

Tell me about it. I don't know if I would've been able to handle it if it happened during our camping trip...

[ god. ann doesn't know if she would've been able to show restraint in front of everyone, rip. ]

Yeah... [he pauses and considers that, before rubbing his shoulder awkwardly. He can't feel the scars through his shirt, that would be dumb. But he knows they're there.]

... What'd you think of that trip, anyway...?

...It was a lot harder than the first one, I'll tell you that.

[ ann got preeeetty roughed up from it. even more so than their first mission. ]

And...it kind of sucked, that I didn't get to spend a lot of time with you. But I made new friends, so I guess it was worth it?

[he's a little ambivalent on which time was harder... it was a lot more frustrating, being away from home for that long, but..]

I feel like they coulda warned us more. That we'd be gone for a long time, or that it'd be dangerous, for the newbies. You can guess, but just saying it would be better than nothing.

[he pauses, and glances at her hand, where he knows the scar is]

Yeaaaah, that's a good point. Especially for the people who didn't go on the mission last year. Kirishima and I were with Shin and Keith, and they couldn't fight at all, so...

[ things were hard, my dude. anyway, she sees him glance at her hand, and ann raises an eyebrow but doesn't say anything of it. ]

But...I don't really wanna talk about it right now. I just want a nice evening with you, if that's cool?

[he pauses-- there's a part of him that still wants to talk about it, but also he'd rather spend more time with his girlfriend. And there's nothing the he needs to talk about now.]
